USA, Kansas: Beer brought a total economic impact of $974.8 million to Kansas in 2004, according to a study by the Beer Institute and the National Beer Wholesalers Association. The figures include direct economic impact on the state, supplier impact and impact on related industries, the organizations said in a written release Wednesday.

Beer brewing, wholesaling and retailing accounted for 8,600 jobs in Kansas in 2004, the study said.

The nation had about 555,600 beer brewing, wholesaling and retailing establishments that employed about 890,700 workers in 2004, according to the study. Nationally, all beer-related businesses contributed more than $162 billion to the U.S. economy in 2004. This includes nearly 1.8 million jobs paying more than $54 billion in wages and more than $30 billion in federal, state and local taxes. New York City-based John Dunham and Associates conducted research for the study.
